Things You May Be Wondering

Simply send me an email to contact@kateashtoncounselling.com or call / text 07532 050124

I will contact you to arrange a first exploratory conversation. I contact you via your email to arrange a convenient time for an initial conversation over the phone. This is a chance to chat about what brings you to therapy, and what you’re hoping to achieve. You can ask any questions you may have and then we arrange a first session.(Duration 50 mins - 1 hour) If you chose to go forward then we'll meet on a regular basis, usually on the same day, weekly.

  • The location is in SY3, near Shrewsbury Hospital and very convenient to the A5. This means counselling therapy can easily be fitted in on the way to or from Telford, Shrewsbury or towns and villages further west.
  • The location is only 2 miles from the centre of Shrewsbury and on a bus route.
  • (Please note: Exact address is provided only after an initial phone conversation has taken place)

Everyone is different. Some people come for a short period - e.g. approximately 8 - 10 weeks, others come for 6-12 months or even more.

Often a person is drawn to come to counselling because of pressures of immediate discomfort or suffering. So the focus is to reduce the immediate sense of crisis or challenge.

However for any one of us, changing underlying patterns of behaviour and engagement takes more time and longer commitment. Some people choose to go beyond finding support for present day issues and look to address hurts from long ago and/or explore changing patterns they have developed over many years (often in order to survive what was happening to them) but which are now damaging for them. This of course takes longer.

We will regularly review our work and always go at your pace.

Everything is in strict confidence. The exceptions are if you or someone else is at risk of harm, or in particular legal situations. As part of practicing ethically and professionally I undertake regular supervision when issues from our sessions may be discussed with another therapist bound by the same ethical framework.

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP Reg No 375456). Do please visit www.bacp.co.uk where you can look me up on their website.
